A six-page kit with a worked district example, three-action tracker, decision brief, follow-up templates, and completion check.
Practical ideas and free resources for the people who serve our communities.
The meeting ends, but the work continues. This six-page kit gives superintendents, cabinet members, and district leadership teams a practical way to connect priorities with actions, decisions, and follow-up.
Start with one observable next step
Keep the district’s existing priority, then name the task someone can check. “Improve family communication” describes a broad aim. “Prepare a verified family calendar draft for review” describes a next step. Add one coordinating owner, a due date, and the evidence that will show the task is complete.
Work through a realistic example
The fictional family-calendar example follows missing information, a decision about publication timing, and a revised deadline. It shows the reason for the change and the next commitment. Publishing the calendar is an output; checking whether families can find the dates is a separate outcome check.
Make decisions easier to prepare
The three-action board records the next step, owner, due date, status, and evidence. The decision brief adds the choice needed, authorized decision-maker, options, tradeoffs, and missing information. Include estimated costs and capacity effects when relevant, with unknowns labeled.
Give the meeting a clear finish
Use the suggested 15-minute review inside a meeting you already hold. Focus on completed work, obstacles, and decisions. Read back the commitments and use the follow-up templates to communicate them. When a deadline changes, retain the original date and explain the revision.
Close the action and check the result
The completion page asks what was delivered, who checked it, who received the handoff, and when the intended result will be reviewed. If an outcome is not yet known, assign a later check rather than claiming success.
Use the kit alongside district processes and formal records. Personnel, student, security, and privileged details belong in the district’s authorized systems, not a general coordination sheet.
